Workshops
Looking Closely, Finding Meaning: The Observational Essay – Each day brings so many opportunities to see the world and discover the meanings it holds for us. Students will spend the day focusing on an event, a moment, an observation, or a realization that holds meaning. We'll explore an idea through a number of writing exercises, and participants will leave with a first draft of an observational essay. Grades: 9 - 12 Using your Voice in your Community or School + Being a good citizen requires participation in community conversations. In local communities, these conversations take place in meetings such as the PTA or town council. A conversation might also occur on the Letters to the Editor page of the local newspaper. In this workshop, we will explore how to develop effective letters to the local newspaper and/or school publication: how to present an argument for or against a community issue of deep personal concern. Grades: 6 - 8
